How much does an electric car cost per 100 km?

Short answer: Cost = consumption per 100 km × charging loss × price per kWh. With Turkish prices of September 30, 2026, a car using 17 kWh/100 km costs about TRY 61 at home, about TRY 196 on public AC and about TRY 268 on DC fast charging. A petrol car using 7 litres costs about TRY 571 and a diesel using 6 litres about TRY 566. In other countries, use your own tariff in the same formula.

How to work it out

  • Consumption: The WLTP figure is a starting point; real use varies.
  • Charging loss: We assume 10% on AC and 5% on DC.
  • Price per kWh in Turkey: about TRY 3.24 at home, TRY 10.50 public AC, TRY 15.00 DC (September 30, 2026).

Example at home: 17 kWh × 1.10 = 18.7 kWh; 18.7 × TRY 3.24 = about TRY 61.

Cost of a full charge

For an empty 60 kWh battery, approximately:

  • Home: TRY 214
  • Public AC: TRY 693
  • DC fast: TRY 945

In practice few people charge from 0 to 100%, and DC power falls after about 80%. See EV charging times.

What changes the cost

  • Speed: High motorway speeds raise consumption.
  • Cold weather: Heating and battery conditions raise it, see EVs in winter.
  • Where you charge: Home and DC can differ several times over.
  • Habit: If you charge mostly at home, your average nears the home price.

Does a home charger pay for itself?

Each 100 km charged at home instead of public AC saves the gap between TRY 196 and TRY 61. The higher your annual mileage, the sooner the charger pays back. Our charger finder estimates it.

These are example calculations; real cost depends on your car, tariff and use.
